JUST four years ago, police custody officers (PCOs) did not exist and sworn police members filled the role in addition to their front-line duties.

Now, with a full staff of 20 PCOs at Mildura police station, the role is forever progressing and entails much more than escorting prisoners to court and serving their meals.
