Housing workers

Jaclyn Symes

Victorian State Treasurer

Member for Northern Victoria

I AM privileged to serve Northern Victoria as MP and as the Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council (Upper House), Treasurer, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Regional Development.

The Allan Labor Government is working hard to deliver better services for the people of Victoria, and the Mallee is no exception.

Back in August, we announced that the first two of 10 new houses had been completed in Irymple, ahead of schedule, as part of a project supported by the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

The new housing will provide accommodation for workers in healthcare, education, and law enforcement. These skilled workers will support this growing town and its community.

Mildura-based company MCBG Karadoc is building the houses, and once all 10 residences are complete, it will provide a total of 28 bedrooms for workers and their families.

Worker accommodation in the region is a key priority for the Victorian Government, with a series of Regional Worker Accommodation Fund projects underway.

This includes seven units for workers in the Buloke Shire, three units to support workers for Kerang District Health, and 10 units for key workers in Robinvale.

As part of the Government’s Flexible Transport Solutions Program, a series of missing link footpaths will also be built in partnership with Mildura Rural City Council.

These footpaths will connect key areas of the city, making it easier for residents to get around.

At the same time, Robinvale will benefit from a new footpath and pedestrian crossing on Latje Road – providing better connections to the hospital, sporting grounds and other facilities, thanks to a joint project with the Swan Hill Rural City Council.

The Allan Labor Government is building a $36 million alcohol and other drugs residential rehabilitation facility for the Mallee.

The new facility means that people seeking alcohol and drug support can get the help they need without needing to travel long distances and leave the local support networks they rely on.

It will be the first facility of its kind in the region. The first designs have been released, shaped by consultation with local stakeholders, including health services, clinicians, staff, consumers, and the broader community. The designs reflect a shared vision for a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment.

We know there is always more to do- these are just some of the things the Allan Labor Government is delivering for the broader Mildura region.

My office is always available to assist with State Government matters. Please phone (03) 5783 2000 or email jaclyn.symes@parliament.vic.gov.au for one-on-one support.
