I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the recent decision by the Department of Education to not appoint Nat Mouvet as the permanent principal of Robinvale College.
As the Member for Mildura, former college councillor and Robinvale resident, I feel compelled to address this issue as it directly impacts the entire wellbeing of our community.
Ms Mouvet has been serving as the acting principal of Robinvale College for the past 15 months, during which time she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to improving the school and thus the entire community.
Under her guidance, the community has witnessed positive transformations including the recruitment of teachers and support staff, increased enrolments and attendance, and improved academic outcomes for our students.
Her contributions have not only benefited the school but have also had a ripple effect on the entire community.
Suspensions rates have lowered from 414 in 2022 to only 137 in 2023.
It is disheartening to learn that despite Ms Mouvet’s outstanding performance and the positive changes she has brought to Robinvale College, the department has chosen not to appoint her as the permanent principal.
After I contacted the minister directly, the minister’s statement urging us to “trust the process” does little to alleviate our concerns, especially when the process seems to have overlooked the insights of the parents and community on the ground.
The repercussions of this decision are already evident, as Robinvale College now finds itself without a leader and the community has been left with a sense of uncertainty regarding their children’s education.
Trust and confidence in the school’s administration are essential for fostering a conducive learning environment, and the absence of a permanent principal undermines these fundamental principles.
I will continue to advocate for the concerns of our community and ensure that our voices are heard on this matter.
Our children’s education should never be compromised, and it is essential that we work together to uphold the standards of excellence that our schools strive to achieve.
I urge the Education Minister to reconsider this decision and prioritise the best interests of the students, teachers, and community members who rely on Robinvale College for quality education.
