Spring into action and enjoy shows

SPRING is almost here, and the buzz of families and friends getting together is happening everywhere.

After two long years in and out of isolation, it feels good to be able to embrace exciting community life with one another, such as the Great Vanilla Slice Triumph, Field Days and markets.

A huge congratulations to Sharp’s Bakery in Birchip, which took out the top spot at the Great Vanilla Slice Triumph. I have long been a fan of their slice, and stop by to pick up a couple when I am in the area. The competition was a fantastic day out with people attending from all over.

The People’s Choice Award went to Mallee’s own Bread & Butter Bakery.

I was pleased to see the Mallee Machinery Field Day had an incredible 9000 attendees. It was a great return after the event was on ice for the previous two years. The sun shone brightly, adding a nice touch to the day. Well done to the Speed Lions Club and the field days team.

Last weekend, I was pleased to attend the Mallee Almond Blossom Festival, which put on a magical display. Everyone from the little ones through to the more advanced in years wore a big smile on their face, enjoying the stalls, activities, live music and shows.

We have a myriad of fantastic events coming up throughout Mallee with agricultural shows starting next month. Our agricultural shows have always been a feature of the Mallee calendar year, not only for those whose livelihoods are dependent on the industry, but also young families, teenagers and community members alike.

From the Mildura Show, October 13 to 15, to Robinvale Euston Show on September 18, I encourage everyone to get out and attend local events this spring, and support our businesses and volunteer groups. It’s a great way to celebrate our great towns.

Of course the Sunraysia Farmers’ Market and the Red Cliffs Country Market are both excellent events, which feature amazing local products and crafts.

Enjoy the sunshine.
