Next stage in sports’ new era

THE sod has finally been turned for Stage 2 of the Mildura Sporting Precinct, and there are exciting times ahead!

By mid-2023, we’ll see many new features at the precinct.

Ten million dollars in Victorian Government funding will bring about a second oval with a centre wicket, four indoor squash courts, four outdoor netball courts, four outdoor beach volleyball courts, additional shade, seating and parking arrangements, a social room, a sports administration hub, changerooms, umpiring facilities, cricket nets, scoreboards, and much more.

Everything will be coming together, and the vision for this sporting precinct will be fully realised.

We all want a sporting hub that reaches its full potential, and I believe Stage 2 of works will go a long way towards achieving that.

Sport is such an important part of our community’s social fabric, and this facility will be the home of sporting highlights for decades to come.

Sporting codes that will soon be moving into the precinct are expecting a huge surge in interest and registrations.

The new squash courts will triple the amount of competition courts available in Sunraysia.

The volleyball courts will be the first outdoor beach volleyball courts our town will see, taking full advantage of our warm summer nights to provide our volleyballers another option to complement their indoor game.

Importantly, this precinct isn’t only about letting our athletes reach their full potential in newly created facilities, but it’s about forming an environment to provide us with broader social benefits.

Sports and recreation are crucial elements to maintaining many people’s physical and mental health.

Sporting clubs allow people to come together and support each other.

They provide a platform to make new friends, be active, feel wanted and included, to set and achieve goals, and of course to have fun and let off some steam.

The significance of the Mildura Sporting Precinct is not lost on me, and I’m keen to build upon this achievement and bring more quality sporting facilities to our great region.
