WHEN the clock strikes midday on Wednesday, a most unfamiliar sound will resonate through the streets of Mildura.

For the first time in more than six decades, a bell inside the Carnegie clock tower on Deakin Avenue will chime, accurately describing the time of day.

This will mark the long awaited return of the clock tower's ability to chime, as the bell was last heard by the public in 1958.
