OZFISH Unlimited is backing temporary fishing embargoes in the Darling River and is urging recreational fishers to follow suit.
Murray-Darling Basin OzFish project manager Braeden Lampard said given the extreme conditions in the river system, group members had decided to enforce their own embargo to give fish the best chance of survival.
“Given the prevailing extreme environmental conditions that are affecting the Darling River, we have continued strong concerns for the health of one of Australia’s largest inland rivers and the fish species that call it home,” he said.
