A FIRE was lit inside the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mildura on Tuesday, in what police have deemed suspicious circumstances.

A parishioner was walking through the yard of the Eleventh Street property at about 12.40pm when he noticed smoke coming out the glass foyer doors of the Monaghan Centre.
