FIREFIGHTERS are bracing for extreme fire conditions this weekend as temperatures across the Mallee head into the 40s across Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to the heat authorities are also preparing for the potential of lightning strikes on Sunday as cloud increases with the chance of showers.
