EXTREME fire danger conditions have been forecast for the Mallee on Saturday.

Mildura is heading for a top temperature of 38 degrees with winds becoming north-easterly between 15 to 25km/h during the morning then tending northerly 20 to 30km/h during the day.

The "extreme" fire danger rating is the second highest that can be issued by the Country Fire Authority below only "catastrophic".
