VICTORIA'S Country Fire Authority has called for vigilance as the fire danger period approaches with a focus on avoiding escaped burn-offs.

The CFA responded to 37 escaped burn-offs between September 1 and September 20 this year.

Last year, of the 819 CFA callouts for escaped burn-offs, 48 per cent occurred in September, October and November.
