MILDURA is expected to lose yet another tourism icon with the Paddle Steamer Melbourne sold this week after more than half a century operating in the region.

The family of the late Captain Alby Pointon, who resurrected the PS Melbourne after she lay idle in Echuca for more than two decades, say the sale is "bitter sweet" with the vessel now expected to make her way to Echuca next year.
