CFA contains Robinvale fire

UP to 76ha of Crown land near Robinvale was destroyed by a bushfire on Wednesday night.

Twenty-four CFA crew members, five tankers and eight slip-on units attended the blaze at Happy Valley Road, 8.5km south-west of Robinvale.

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire by 8.32pm, but the CFA warned people to remain vigilant in the area.

The cause of the blaze was not yet known and fire crews were investigating.

The blaze is one of dozens of fires across the state that coincided with powerful storms which killed a man and brought widespread destruction across Victoria, leaving 530,000 homes and businesses without power.

Lightning strikes sparked several forest fires in the west of the state, damaging homes in Pomonal.

Temperatures exceeded 40C in parts of Victoria on Tuesday.

The region can expect the hot weather to continue. Mildura's forecast today is 34C, as temperatures continue to climb towards 40C by next Wednesday.
