MILDURA Fire Brigade's new heavy tanker will be out on the road in the next couple of weeks.
The 4000 litre 4WD vehicle will increase the mobile water capability of the brigade, and complement a suite of support vehicles acquired over recent years.
Mildura CFA captain Jason Currie said it's a "flash looking truck".
"It's a great asset not only to the firefighters, but to the community," he said.
“It comfortably seats five people, has a class 'A' foam system, and boasts a range of safety features including crew protection sprinklers, heat resistant alloy door handles, and a roll cage.
The vehicle will specialise in accessing fires in difficult terrain, and allows its occupants to make use of a bullbar-mounted remote control monitor when tackling grassfires.
"So if we go out in the Millewa and we go along a fence line or a fire ridge, we can actually have the capability of driving that (monitor) and also knocking the fire down as we're driving along," Mr Currie said.
The new vehicle will replace the brigade's current heavy tanker, which had a 3750 litre tank.
Other new vehicles in the brigade's fleet include a breathing apparatus ute, and a rehab vehicle, which aid crews in lengthy fire fighting.
Mr Currie said all members are receiving training prior to the heavy tanker being deployed.
"It takes us probably around six to eight weeks, sometimes a little bit longer, to get them online and every member signed up," he said.
"We should have it online within the next couple of weeks."
