SHIMMERS of deep purple, pink and green filled the night sky across the Mallee on Friday night, as an Aurora Australis dazzled stargazers across southern Australia.
Nicknamed the Southern Lights, the iridescent phenomena delighted shutterbugs in the Millewa, Mallee Track and Sunraysia for about two hours.
The colouration was strong enough at times to be seen with the naked eye across Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, inland Western Australia and as far north as Tibboburra in NSW.
