Little preschool’s big birthday

GENERATIONS of families who attended Gyndarna Preschool returned to the facility last week to celebrate its 60th birthday.

Last Thursday, the Dareton preschool invited all members of the community to join in its birthday celebrations.

Kids were able to dance, sing and play while adults mingled and reminisced.

Director of education Lateesha Hester said she was glad to see so many people enjoying the community event.

"We opened it up to the community for everyone to celebrate," she said.

Gyndarna Indigenous Corporation chief executive Brady Matthews said making 70 years was an achievement worth celebrating.

"We are the only Aboriginal-controlled preschool in the Sunraysia district and I think that is token to the work we've done because we’ve obviously done a good job," he said.

"We're on our third-generation enrolments now.

"We've had grandparents and then their children and now their grandchildren are coming through."

As well as live entertainment and children's activities, there was a traditional dance performance, smoking ceremony, photo booth and lunch prepared by Enjoy Catering.
