UPDATE 4:50pm: The fire has been deemed "under control".

PEOPLE in the Ouyen area are being urged to stay informed and monitor conditions, as firefighters respond to a bushfire.

Firefighters were called to a large grassfire before 4pm Sunday.

Vic Emergency said 21 vehicles were responding to the fire, which is listed as "not yet under control".

The Country Fire Authority said the grassfire was travelling from Steele Road, south of Ouyen, and heading east towards Boulka Road.

Advice has been issued for Ouyen, Boorongie North and Boulka.

CFA said there was currently no threat to residents but they should stay informed, monitor updates and keep roads clear so emergency services can respond.

Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.
