THE generosity of Sunraysia residents was on full display on Saturday night, when $100,000 was raised for the Mildura Base Public Hospital Foundation.
Over 400 people attended the Hollywood-themed MBPH Foundation Gala Ball at Club Da Vinci, and reached deep into their pockets to help support health care in the region.
Guests were treated to trapeze artists, dancers and fire swallowers, heard speeches from former health minister Jill Hennessy and cancer survivor Lisa Cumming and enjoyed a menu curated by Stefano de Pieri.
Hospital chief executive Terry Welch hailed the event a resounding success.
'It was another fantastic event for our Foundation, they are big events and the community spirit could only be described as incredibly positive. There was a lot of goodwill in the room and just an amazing connection across the whole Northern Mallee community," he said.
"We highlighted a couple of things on the night, including our plans to build a Foundation house to provide accommodation for patients and staff, where needed."
"We also launched a concept we had for some mobile care opportunities. We've got a really clear vision for the Foundation and people can see the direction we are going in."
Mr Welch said they would look to continue the event next year.
"We went from 270 people the first year to 400 and the community's goodwill just tells us we can continue to plan big and bold," he said.
"We have been very transparent with the community. On the night, they got to see areas we are looking to work on but most importantly, they got see that we are delivering on what we say we are going to deliver on.
"Last year, we said we were going to build a clinical trials and research unit and within six months, it was up and running and we have our first clinical trial underway.
"I'm sure next year we will see an increase in numbers again because we are always planning to do things bigger, have fun and give back to the community."
