THE Merbein Fire Brigade turns 100 years old on Thursday.

The original fire station cornering Main Avenue and Box Street was officially opened on August 3, 1923, and had 15 foundation members.

Over the past century, its volunteers have responded to countless callouts for fires, rescues, road incidents, gas leaks and everything in between.
