Burns planned for Murray Sunset National Park

FOREST Fire Management Victoria will undertake planned burns in the Murray Sunset National Park beginning on Sunday.

The fuel reduction burns will take place along Galah North Road, 15 kilometres southwest of Hattah, and along Mengler Road West, 24 kilometres south west of Hattah.

The Galah North Road burn will cover about 200 hectares, while the Mengler Road West burn will be of about 50 hectares.

The burns will be completed between 10am Sunday and 6pm Wednesday, April 26.

People may see smoke from the burns until mid next week, and FFMVic staff will be patrolling the burns until it is declared safe.

Smoke may be visible from Hattah, Ouyen, Underbool, and surrounding areas.

Anyone experiencing symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure should seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.

Road travel may also be hazardous due to low visibility associated with smoke, while signs may be in place to slow traffic.

People should stay clear of areas where burns are taking place or areas that have recently been burnt.

Access to walking tracks, car parks, camping grounds and picnic sites in areas close to or in burn areas may be restricted.
