Salvos need a helping hand

THE Irymple Salvation Army is appealing for more helpers to assist in sorting goods at their donation yard amid volunteer shortages.

Thrift Shop co-ordinator Glenn Milne said they had many volunteers leave the donation yard in the last few months due to family commitments, health and relocation and they were in need of help.

Mr Milne said they hoped to find half a dozen fit and healthy volunteers to donate some of their time.

"There is a bit of lifting required because you get donations of furniture but there is usually two or three people there to help out," he said.

"It would suit people that are looking for something to do to help the community that have maybe retired or for people who are on a work for the dole program and are looking for a community group to work for."

Mr Milne said it was a good working environment and a way for people to give back to their community.

"We have got good, caring people that work for the Salvos there is always plenty of laughs and fun to be had," he said.

"Goods are donated and collected there and sent out to our shops at Ouyen, Redcliffs and Mildura and those shops sell goods with all the funds going out into the community through grants, food packs and assistance."

Mr Milne said they would be looking for people who could preferably work from 9am-3pm but any hours would be appreciated.

Those looking to volunteer are encouraged to contact the thrift shop on 03 5022 2050.
