FORMER Mildura physician Dr Barry Dowty has been acknowledged in this year's Australia Day Honours.

Dr Dowty was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medicine in a range of roles.

He was the Australian Medical Association branch councillor for Mallee from 1987-1995 and 2006-2008, advocated for Life Education Drug Education Programs in Victoria and became a Fellow in 1995.
