THE Murray Valley Highway is closed in both directions between Piangil and Robinvale after floodwater caused substantial damage to the road surface.
A Department of Transport spokesperson said the highway was closed between Tooleybuc and Robinvale-Sea Lake roads as a section of the highway "is under a significant amount of flowing water near Lake Powell".
"The water has caused substantial damage to the road surface and emergency repairs need to made," the spokesperson said.
Motorists travelling between Piangil and Robinvale can detour via the Mallee Highway and Robinvale-Sea Lake Road.
"Residents and essential vehicles accessing properties on this section of the Murray Valley Highway can continue to use the road but will be unable to travel through the affected Lake Powell section," the spokesperson said.
"The road will re-open when repairs are complete and it’s safe to do so.
"We ask that drivers take extra care when travelling on our road network, particularly in areas affected by flooding. Please obey the signs and never drive through floodwater."
