THE passenger rail service between Swan Hill and Melbourne has been suspended until further notice due to the extreme weather this week, and road closures mean there will also be no replacement bus services until further notice.
The Victorian Transport Department has announced that all train and coach services between Bendigo and Swan Hill and Echuca are on hold, as are those between Melbourne, Seymour, Shepparton and Albury, and the Warrrnambool line between Warrnambool and Waurn Ponds.
The department says V/Line is unable to safely operate trains or coaches under current conditions, which include flooding in many parts of the state.
It says people in Melbourne who are unable to travel due to the line suspensions and make alternative plans, should speak to a station staff member at Southern Cross station.
Passengers across all other parts of the regional network, it says, should defer non-essential travel.
The situation will be reviewed today.
