ANIMAL rights activists say they want to prevent northern Victorian bird paradises being transformed by duck hunting into a "wildlife war zone".

Shooters group Field and Game Australia claims if duck hunting is banned "wetlands will degrade at best, and most likely disappear".

The battle lines have again been drawn ahead of the announcement of the 2022 duck hunting season dates.
