FAMILIES took advantage of Mildura Waves' summer fun calendar on Saturday as children took to the water for the centre's popular pool party.
Mildura Waves Aquatic and Leisure Centre manager Caitlin Simmons said after a tough year the sessions were designed to give parents a cheap option for a fun day out.
"Despite the slightly cooler weather than we would have hoped, we still had a really great number of families come out and enjoy the day, which is great – that's what these events are always about," Ms Simmons said.
"The biggest drawcard for (the pool parties) is to get the music and pool inflatables happening as well as the regular wave sessions because we know they're such a big hit."
The previous weekend, as part of the holiday calendar, Ms Simmons said the centre had hosted a superheroes day, with excited children turning out in themed costumes.
"To make it really accessible and affordable for families, we do it at a reduced rate of $5 so they can come along and enjoy it.
"Particularly with the challenges that everyone has experienced over the last 12 months, to be able to have a low-cost option to enjoy a day out is always great."
The centre's focus will now turn to the Victorian Country Long Course Swimming Championships, which kick off this Saturday.
The three-day event will attract the state's best up-and-coming talent, who will travel to Mildura to compete, while a number of local swimmers will fly the flag for Sunraysia.
Mildura Waves' 50m outdoor pool will be closed for the event from noon on Wednesday until 6am on January 26, however all indoor pools and spa and sauna will remain open to the public.
During the championships, there will all times be a reduced number of swimming lanes available to the public in the indoor 25m pool.
All lessons and classes will run as scheduled.
