THE amount of money directed towards the prevention of family violence in the Mildura region needs to more than double to achieve long-term change, a Mildura councillor has warned.

In an emotional speech at this week's meeting of councillors, Cr Helen Healy said the region had an unacceptable level of family violence, but much of the funding was directed towards the response and not prevention.
