VULNERABLE families desperately holding out for social housing are waiting up to a year and half to get a roof over their heads, according to the latest figures.

The September waiting list data showed 708 Mildura families were seeking accommodation, with the priority list for homeless or disabled people, or those escaping domestic violence also growing.
