THE Mildura local government area is now under strict rules when it comes to lighting fires, after the city entered the official fire danger period on Monday.

Mildura and Swan Hill were the only municipalities to enter the fire danger period, with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) saying above-average growth in the Mallee and Wimmera fire district increased the likelihood of fires in late spring.
