Pop-up vaccination clinics for NSW far west

POP-up COVID-19 vaccination clinics will be held across the Wentworth and Balranald shires next week.

The mobile clinics, run by two defence force medical teams with support from Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) staff, will offer the Pfizer vaccine and focus on local Indigenous residents.

As of Friday, Wentworth Shire had the district's only active COVID cases at 19, with no new cases recorded overnight Thursday.

FWLHD's total number of recovered cases is 285 -- one from Balranald, 121 from Broken Hill, one from Menindee, 10 from Wentworth Shire and 152 from Wilcannia.

FWLHD chief executive Umit Agis urged people 12 and over to take advantage of the free clinics and said there were still vulnerable residents, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, who had not yet had their first dose of vaccine.

"The need for increased vaccination rates in the Wentworth and Balranald LGAs is paramount as we grapple with the current COVID-19 outbreak," Mr Agis said.

"Vaccination is one of the best weapons we have to keep the virus in check and to protect yourself, your loved ones and the community at large.

"I wish to also thank those in the region who have already come forward for vaccination to protect themselves and their community and urge others to follow suit."
