Mildura records six new cases, boosting hopes for early end to lockdown

MILDURA'S hopes of being released from lockdown in line with the rest of Victoria have been boosted with just six new cases recorded on Tuesday.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he was unable to give a definitive answer about when the Mildura Local Government Area would end lockdown.

"Not today, but as soon as we can have them on the same footing as the rest of regional Victoria we will do that," Mr Andrews said.

"The stability that has come to those cases in the past 24 to 48 hours is good, so hopefully that decision is not too far away.

"But it's not one for me to make today and there has been no decision to that effect made yet."

The low case number announced on Tuesday came after Mildura recorded nine new cases on Monday. There were a total of 28 cases across the weekend.

Other Victorian regions who are out of lockdown continued to record more cases than Mildura yesterday, with Latrobe topping the list with 24 new cases of the 145 recorded across regional Victoria.

Victoria recorded 1749 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases, and 11 deaths, taking the toll from the current outbreak to 163.

The state now has 22,476 active cases, up almost 150 from Monday.

There were 68,702 tests processed and 36,751 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered at state-run hubs on Monday.

Meanwhile, more than 40 Victoria Police staff have been stood down and face losing their jobs after refusing to have a COVID-19 vaccine.

But Mr Andrews said the state remained on track to have restrictions eased on Thursday at 11.59pm with vaccinations at 70 per cent double-dosed.
