MILDURA Rural City Council has appointed experienced local government executive Philip Shanahan as interim chief executive following his endorsement at last week's ordinary council meeting.

Mr Shanahan will start in the interim role on May 25 and will remain until early August, or earlier if the council's new chief executive is able to start before then.
