A CAR was engulfed in flames on the side of the Calder Highway at Carwarp on Wednesday night.

Three CFA crews from Red Cliffs and Nangiloc, with support from Fire Rescue Victoria, attended the scene about 8.30pm following a report of a car on fire.

Firefighters took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The four-wheel drive was destroyed.

It is unknown how the blaze started.
