FIREFIGHTERS say it is too early to determine whether Aboriginal cultural sites were destroyed in a blaze that continued to burn at Wentworth's Junction Island on Tuesday.

The fire started about 1.30pm on Saturday and was brought under control that evening, with the site expected to continue to smoulder for several days due to the island's heavy undergrowth and large gum trees.
