AFTER a challenging year for organisers of the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show (AAVWS), 560 wines were ripe and ready for tasting at the event, which kicked off in Mildura last week.

Despite things looking a little different this year, organisers in the lead-up took a "glass half-full" approach, overcoming complex logistical issues to ensure it went ahead.
