MILDURA Rural City Council has brushed aside the pleas of many local residents and businesses to urgently change the red-bin service from a fortnightly to weekly pick-up for general household waste.

A council spokesman said on Thursday that "sending more waste to landfill will cost the community more and result in significant environmental harm".
