SUNRAYSIA'S busiest events period is under threat after Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday advised against "non-essential" gatherings of more than 500 people due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The national ban will come into effect on Monday, but has already prompted a quick decision to cancel Mildura's Walking Off the War Within event and Saturday's Big V basketball games.
