CLOSE to half of drownings in the past seven months have been in inland waterways, sparking concerns from Life Saving Victoria (LSV).

It comes after a man visiting Australia from New York last week became the fourth person in north-west Victoria to drown in the Murray River this year.

According to LSV, 22 people have drowned in Victoria between July 1 last year and February 24 this year.
