MILDURA experienced its heaviest rainfall in 10 months on Wednesday, taking forecasters by surprise.

The original forecast of between 1mm and 5mm was surpassed by 9am on Wednesday, when 7.8mm was recorded.

An additional 16.8mm was recorded by 3pm, the heaviest total since 27.8mm fell on May 2 last year.
