IT feels like only yesterday that Craig Rutherford dismounted his KTM after winning the hardest race of his life.

The Bendigo truck driver etched his name into history as the inaugural winner of the Hattah Desert Race in 1998 after the iconic event was revived by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club.
