Dresses to impress on charity show

GOWN of the year winners Judy Bond and Sue Parker will showcase their designs in a fashion show to raise funds for Wings for Kids on Saturday at the Masonic Hall, Irymple.

The theme of the fashion show is Dare to be Different and will be the latest event by WFK where Bond has featured her garments.

Funds made from the show will go directly towards the WFK mission of purchasing medical equipment and aid for special needs children.

Bond said she is overjoyed to feature her knit and crocheted garments for the charity show.

“It’s a fantastic, worthwhile cause,” she said.

“And the ladies who run it are lovely to work with as well. They’re very easy going.”

Bond said she invited Parker on behalf of WFK to showcase pieces that Mildura attendees might not expect.

“I met Sue through Gown of the Year in Melbourne, probably in 2010,” she said.

“We’ve been good friends ever since.

“I thought it would be a lovely idea to bring her and her garments up. There’s a lot of people up here that would love to see them.

“It’s also going to be very different from a normal fashion show. Much more relaxed.”

Parker said attendees should expect her to bring unique couture garments for the fundraiser show.

“People can expect a combination of cocktail dresses,” she said.

“And maybe one or two racewear outfits and some long evening gowns. I have brought a few with me, so we’ll just pick and choose when we get them out later.”

Bond said she will have a warm community mostly comprised of close friends supporting her and Parker behind the scenes.

“I’ve got lots of wonderful people that are helping me out the back with the dressing and organisation of it,” she said

“Including my family, my two daughters, my granddaughter, and some very good friends are all helping me.

“Between us all, I think we’ll get there.

“The last one we did for Wings for Kids went really well. So, I’m hoping this one will go just as well.”
