Creative has global brands in focus

A MILDURA export is making her mark in the creative landscape, completing dozens of projects on behalf of some of her favourite childhood brands.

Georgia Haynes, 31, first realised her passion for photography one day when she was developing film in the dark room at Mildura Senior College.

As the daughter of a graphic designer, the self-taught photographer, designer and director became fascinated with the creative process, and even made makeshift pinhole cameras with her friends using Milo tins.

Flash forward a couple of years, she had completed two SuniTAFE diplomas in graphic design and visual arts, and a design degree at Swinburne University.

While studying she had been dabbling in food photography as a side gig, and had picked up several projects for the street culture-focused Acclaim Magazine as a freelancer.

Her abilities led to her being asked to photograph some of Australia’s biggest live music gigs, where she took photos of prominent international artists like A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar.

“Fashion photography led from that as well, that was kind of all happening around the same time, which was cool,” Haynes said.

“Working on that actually gave me exposure to then work with Nike and Foot Locker and Adidas and Reebok and all those brands I’ve done work for.

“They could see what I was capable of and that gave exposure to be able to work for these brands.”

Working primarily as a director these days, Haynes’ work with the Summer Basketball Festival of Australia or ‘Summer Jam’ became the first Australian-produced film to feature on the social media channels of global sports brand Jordan.

She is in the midst of a follow-up piece of work for the brand, and is also wrapping up a campaign for footwear brand Volley.

Haynes credited a lot of her work to her supportive family, and a prevailing interest in basketball culture which started during her formative years in Mildura.

“It’s something that I’d always dreamt of,” Haynes said.

“I remember being in primary school and my creative story writing in school, the only thing I knew how to write was a basketball game.

“I guess I kind of manifested it from a young age.

“It’s really cool that I get to bring my childhood into my work basically.”

Haynes has also worked with other prominent global brands including Beats by Dre, Sony Music, Warner Music, Live Nation, Mushroom Group, Lululemon, Umbro, New Balance, Arc’teryx, Perks and Mini, Timberland, Charles LeBrun, New Era, eBay, and Complex AU.

Examples of Haynes’ work are available at her website, georgiarhaynes.com.
