THE Autumn Flower and Floral Design Show in Irymple proved a popular Mother’s Day outing for many families as Marjorie Donnellan and Alison Whiting were among the big winners for their exhibits.
Ms Donnellan, of Sunnycliffs, won the the Agnes Gathercole award for overall best exhibit in floral design with a contemporary columnar design.
Ms Whiting enjoyed a triple treat, firstly with a cactus dahlia called “Show and Tell” that was named the champion dahlia.
She also won the Royal Horticultural Society of Victoria medal for best overall exhibit in cut flower categories, as well as the chrysanthemum championship.
In a separate category, the champion Chrysanthemum of Show was taken out by Shirley Sylvia, who celebrated her 90th birthday at the weekend.
Organisers said the propagated plants sold well at the main plant stall over the two-day event.
“Some treasures turned up at our stall from some of our members’ gardens. People were racing to buy them,” Sunraysia Garden Club’s Dianne Dalla Santa said.
“The show turned out to be very successful on both days.”
