Autumn set to burst into colour at Irymple flower show

PREPARATIONS are in full swing for a blooming marvellous showcase of flowers and floral designs at Sunraysia Masonic Centre in Irymple this weekend.

The Autumn Flower and Floral Design Show will feature 133 categories that include open, intermediate and novice floral designs, cut flowers, pot plants and photography, as well as a display of hobbies.

Autumn roses, dahlias and chrysanthemums – the ultimate Mother’s Day flower – will be among the highlights of cut flower section.

The Royal Horticultural Society of Victoria will present a silver medal for the show’s best exhibit, while the Rose Society of Victoria will provide a rose medal for the champion rose on display.

The Hammerton Cup for the champion chrysanthemum and the Agnes Gathercole Trophy for best open floral design are some of the other honours up for grabs.

Joanne Chapple, of Irymple, is one of the arts and craft aficionados who will display her work this weekend.

She is keeping a “few surprises” up her sleeve, but did reveal some of the floral arrangements she had been working on for the show.

“I’ll have a display of mushrooms, moths and little bugs,” Ms Chapple said.

“I don’t want to give away too much just now, because I want some of the other things to be a surprise.”

A number of stalls will sell flowers and floral designs.

The show, organised by Sunraysia Garden Club, runs from 12.30pm to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday at Sunraysia Masonic Centre on Fifteenth Street.

Admission is $4 and off-street parking is available.
