Mildura mother says it’s time to talk about birth choices

A MILDURA mother is hoping to start conversations surrounding birth choices and drive change with the screening of Birth Time: The documentary.

Dani Pick welcomed her daughter Piper to the world nine months ago and, while going through the birthing process and talking with friends, she felt there was a “gap” in Sunraysia.

“There are just not enough options and it’s difficult to find what there is,” she said.

Birth Time was made by three Australian women who set out to discover “why an increasing number of women are emerging from their births physically and emotionally traumatised”.

“It is something I wanted to see and I knew other local birth advocates and mothers would be interested as a change is needed,” Ms Pick said.

“Research shows that one in three women experienced birth trauma, which is massive.

“I want to bring women together to encourage women supporting women, to talk about the options around birth and postnatal care.

“It’s time for real options for birthing women in Mildura. It is also an opportunity for women across the region to join forces, speak up, and empower one another.”

Ms Pick hopes the screening of the documentary will encourage local women to begin to advocate the changes they want to see in Sunraysia.

Birth Time is set to be screened at Wallis Cinemas Mildura on April 27 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available online at tickets.demand.film/event/10746.
