Sunraysia Garden Club ready to bloom again

THE Sunraysia Garden Club will resume meetings early next month after an 11-month, COVID-enforced break.

During the lockdowns last year, some members found themselves caring for an abundance of potted plants intended for sale when COVID-19 halted the club’s two flower shows.

It is now aiming to conduct a COVID-safe Autumn Flower and Floral Design Show in May.

Floral design convenor Mary Crisera last year encouraged members to construct entries, as per the 2020 monthly floral design classes, in their homes and send via their devices for judging during the recess.

“This was a huge success and many local floral designers participated,” club spokeswoman Dianne Dalla Santa said.

“Throughout the year some members also competed in virtual flower shows and one in particular was the South Australian Rose Society virtual show with Merbein member Shirley Sylvia submitting winning entries.

“Now it is time for us to all reconvene and enjoy all the benefits and camaraderie of our local garden club.”

The club’s first meeting of 2021 will be at Aero Oval pavilion from 8pm on Thursday, February 4.
