In celebration of the 2024 Paris Olympics, students from Foundation to Year 6 got ready and mashed up some fun – welcome to the Potato Olympics. From the “Tater Toss” to the “Spud Sprint,” these young athletes showcased their skills in a series of thrilling potato-themed events. It was a close call with all participating teams but it was The Green Gators who brought home the gold medal.

In preparation for their annual trip to Canberra at the end of this term, students in Years 5 and 6 have been learning about all things Parliament such as the different levels of Parliament, ‘What is a Democracy?’ and how their voices matter when it comes to elections. We have no doubt that this experience will strengthen their learning and understanding of the Australian Parliament. Could we have the future ‘Prime Minister’ of Australia within our school?

Last week was National Science Week. Students from Foundation to Year 10 participated in activities such as The National Science Quiz and making bioplastics from renewable resources. We were also fortunate to have Oz Fish visit our school. They are the only fish conservation charity in Australia. They presented to students their Rehabilitation Projects that they are currently doing along the Murray River.

Coming up, our school events include our annual Athletics Carnival where students participate in various track and field events. Triple jump is as easy as a hop, skip and a jump. Book Week is not too far away. Our theme for this year is “Book Explorers: Adventures one page at a time”. Students are buzzing about their costumes and the opportunity to talk about their books based on their adventures. They are also looking forward to participating in a new activity each day, based around books.

It has been an exciting, yet busy term for students at Henderson College and we look forward to sharing more of our awesome adventures with our community in the future.
