So far, a picture of success

JUNIOR photographer Finn Cupper will take on the best of the best when his photo of an Australian kestrel feeding its chicks is displayed at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show.

The now 13-year-old was named the best junior photographer at the Mildura Show last year for encapsulating the brief of showing animals in action.

Recently, the same photo was compared to submissions from 11 other agricultural show societies in the northern district, and was again deemed the winner.

The submission will now be tested at state level in September, when it will be judged alongside standout submissions from 11 other Victorian districts.

Finn reckons he’s in with a chance.

“I’d rate myself a seven out of 10 chance,” he said

“It’s nice and sharp, it’s got good light, and it’s an action photo.”

His award-winning image was taken at Castles Crossing, south of Carwarp, after he and his grandfather Lindsay waited two hours for the kestrel’s arrival.

Finn thinks there may still be other bird photos in the contest, and is looking forward to attending the Royal Melbourne Show this year.
