Mallee Cup winner back for more

TRACK CHAT with Darren Davis

MORPHETTVILLE trainer Paula Trenwith will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the Sunraysia Daily Mallee Cup with Kayseri at the bet365 Mildura Racing Club’s Melbourne Cup Day races at Sandilong Park on Tuesday.

Kayseri has been a top money earner for Trenwith as he has achieved five wins and 12 placings since transferring from the leading SA stable of Richard and Chantelle Jolly back in February 2022.

Kayseri has only had one start at the Mildura track which resulted in a narrow victory over the local galloper Branders Rule in last year’s Mallee Cup on November 7. He recorded a fast-finishing victory out wide on the track with jockey Randy Tan.

The eight-year-old has been lightly raced since the Mallee Cup success, but has recorded wins at Kangaroo Island and Broken Hill earlier this year.

Kayseri resumed from a spell in fine style at Strathalbyn on October 23, racing at the tail of the field until the 400m mark before showing his customary speed in the home straight for an eye-catching third place.

He will have derived a lot of benefit from the outing and with added fitness he will be prominent as he aims to continue his unbeaten status at Mildura and make it back-to-back Mallee Cup victories.

The club has framed a six-race program with the first race to start at 12.55pm.

*An eight-page Melbourne Cup Day guide, including fields and form, will be published in Monday’s Sunraysia Daily.
