MILDURA Base Hospital will roster a senior doctor to be on its maternity ward full-time during business hours in a move it claims will improve patient safety.

But the shock move, which will come into effect next month, has raised questions about the futures of experienced senior doctors in Mildura who have been used in on-call roles for years.
